But this time if we go to IPSW we can see that there are only two firmware currently being signed by Apple which is iOS 12.1.2 and iOS 12.1.1.
There were a lot of vulnerabilities that were patched in iOS 12.1.1 but those were regarding kernel. iOS 12.1 below at IPSW if we take a look inside there were two vulnerabilities that were patched which gave us kernel privileges.
Now On October 2, 2018, iOS 12.1 Beta 2 was released and iOS 12.0.1 didn’t come until October 8th which means that iOS 12.1 Beta 2 yet to receive the security patches. That’s why beta 2 is currently being signed
That’s why in this tutorial I’ll let you know in steps how you can downgrade to iOS 12.1 beta 2 if you want to jailbreak later. Because older versions get jailbreak faster than the new.
Before proceeding further I want to confirm that this method will work until Apple stops signing of iOS 12.1 beta 2.
Process Downgrade to iOS 12.1 beta 2
- Step 1
Ist you need to download iTunes and iOS Beta 2 iPSW OTA which you can do by going to this link. More you need a computer or the device you are going to downgrade. iPhone Xs, Xs Max, iPhone 6s and 6s plus are good to go but not confirmed about iPhone 7 and 8.
- Step 2
After downloading the file connect your device to your computer using a USB cable and make sure it’s recognized and connected. If not then tap on trust in your device to continue with iTunes.
- Step 3
Now you need to select your device inside iTunes, Click on check for the update by pressing the option key(alt key) on MAC computer or pressing shift-key on a windows computer. Select the downloaded file of iOS 12.1 Beta 2 and click open. In the case, you want a smoother jailbreak you need to hold the same key and need to press the restore button BUT Remember this way all the data in your device will get removed.
- Step 4
Now you just need to wait to complete the process, iTunes will do the process while checking few verification and checks through the Apple server. After the process is completed you will set up your device as a new phone. And you have successfully completed downgrade to iOS 12.1 beta 2.
