The Chinese schools are now providing the uniforms to the students which come with two chips at the shoulder side which will track students’ location. It is to keep track of students when they are coming and going, of course, it’s purely for the attendance purpose. The schools have also employed a facial recognition system at the entrance to make sure that students are wearing their own uniforms.
In case a student decides to cut class while wearing the uniform, an alarm will be triggered. This alarm will also sound when a student gives the uniform to their friends to wear and a student tries to walk through the entrance wearing the wrong uniform.
These are currently being used in 10 schools and in their other features, they can detect that when a student nod off during the lecture.
According to the reports The Global Times
The uniforms might provoke privacy concerns as the system can locate students even in non-school hours.” But the paper then quotes Lin Zongwu, principal of No. 11 School of Renhuai in Guizhou Province, as saying (arguably, a little ominously) that “We choose not to check the accurate location of students after school.
There are also some other related initiatives by the Government, They also have introduced the “Social Credit” scoring system which rates the citizens according to their behavior.
Getting bad score can lead a citizen to get banned by the Government from certain activities like riding trains and booking flights.
The government has already blocked more than 11 million people in the first five months of this year from booking flights and another 4.25 million people from taking high-speed trains as a result of this scoring system. There are more punishments beyond these two which include slowing down the internet speed or preventing booking at certain hotels and losing the right to own the pets.
